Spring and summer will bring many opportunities to embrace the carefree tie dye trend! I never thought I’d be caught in tie dye, but I’ve gravitating towards the funky, unconventional vibe as of late. It’s hard to resist when so many of my favorite designers like Proenza Schouler and Prada made it wearable and cool this season. There are a variety of ways to wear tie dye from subdued to edgy! If you’re feeling intimidated by the tie dye trend, here are my tips for how to incorporate it into your daily looks.
Shop My Favorite Tie Dye Pieces
Hint of Hippy
Styling tie dye prints with blazers and other structured pieces are a great way to tone down the groovy color palette. The seemingly clashing styles work really nicely together to make your outfit transient for different occasions. It’s the perfect medium for something that’s a little more fun than business casual yet more buttoned-up than Coachella!
A peek of tie dye underneath a modest jacket or blazer is the way to go. It’s all about using layers to blend the pattern into your outfit.
Tone It Down
Keep the rest of your outfit dark and neutral neutral especially if you’re going with a saturated tie dye piece. Dark colors keep this funky trend grounded. Be mindful that your clothing doesn’t have to be every color of the rainbow to be tie dye! Some of my favorite pieces come in soft blues, grays, and browns. You still get the exciting pattern without feeling overwhelmed.

Get Matchy
Styling a matchy look is one of my favorite ways to wear tie dye. Pick your favorite colors and match similar pieces to those swirls. Here, I chose to use blue and white, which are both understated enough to allow for multiple tie dye pieces – and still look cool and collected. This also works in the ream of denim with a blue tie dye shirt or jacket.
Go Bold
Of course, you can always embrace the full spirit of the tie dye trend by wearing color from head to toe. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Use the upcoming festivals and summer parties to test the waters with jackets, shoes, and handbags.
