I’ll admit that it’s still too warm to be wearing a coat in LA during the day, but fall gives me an excuse to pull out my favorite coats without feeling insane. That being said, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to get through the next few freezing months especially if you live in an area where temperatures get frigid. There are very few coat styles that strike me as worthy of investing in, and off the top of my head, I can think of 4 that I’m constantly looking for fresh renditions of every season. This year, my top investment coats are as follows:
I’ll always love a good menswear-influenced coat. Although available in solids such as black, navy, and gray, plaid is my top choice this fall. The one I’m wearing is from Designer’s Remix, a brand I’ve grown to love for it’s timeless silhouettes with a modern twist. However, there are plenty of options from luxury brands to high street brands available at your finger tips. A plaid coat is perfect because it’s easy to wear and can be dressed up or down with any look.
The trench coat is more fitting for LA’s milder fall and winter weather. A quality trench coat will give you tons of wear while providing protection from wet, rainy and windy weather. I still love my Burberry trench worn here. I prefer an oversized fit for that relaxed, undone look.
Fur or Shearling Coat
On days I feel like cozying up with a blanket, there’s fur or shearling. It adds a great pop of texture and looks amazing when paired with jeans. I also love using fur or shearling to tone down the femininity of floral and ruffle dresses. The contrast is pure stunning.
The camel coat is one of those forever pieces you can wear time and time again. From wrap styles to menswear silhouettes, it’s all about polishing up your look.
