As said on Instagram, Italy really had me changing things up – saturated colors, ruffles, and florals? It happened. I’m sure most of you think of florals girly territory, but you’ll see today that it’s all about the styling. If you’re considering the romantic print this summer, I’m offering up some tips on how to wear florals in a modern, cool way!
Pick the right color
I shared my advice for wearing color in this post and want to stress how important the right color is. Pastels like pink, mint, or lavender will naturally feel more feminine. But stronger colors like yellow, red, and royal blue offer up more room to strike up a cool contrast or toughen things up. I decided on this Caroline Constas dress for Florence because of the muted yellow and modern asymmetrical hem. Lots of options for accessorizing this little number.
Florals don’t stop at dresses. You have tons of skirt and top options too. With a dress, you can toughen things up with leather accessories and clashing colors. In the case of separates, look to shoes, urban/utility outerwear, oversized tops, or distressed denim to do the talking.
Look for masterful pairings
You have two options when it comes to masterful pairings. Mix print on prints such as stripes and florals or polka dots and florals. This isn’t up my alley, but I admit I have seen cool mix ups on the street style scene. I’m more about adding neutrals into my outfit like the mules and structured bag. It helps ground the look.
Add your favorite shades
You guys know how much I love my shades. And seriously guys, your fave pair of sunglasses can change up the whole vibe and look. Pick a thick-rimmed rectangle pair or this geometric one from Gigi Barcelona. Sleek cat eye sunglasses are also very in right now.
How are you rocking florals this summer?
