If it isn’t obvious by now, I’m a live-in-staples girl. I collect heaps of jeans, blazers, and tees – pretty much basics that I can have on rotation all year long. There’s no doubt I love a great trend as much as the next girl, but I have learned in my years as a stylist that a well-edited closet takes you a long way. As you revamp and rework your wardrobe for the new season, I wanted to share 5 of my fall staples you should consider before splurging on that cowboy boot or leopard printed skirt.
Blazers
One can never have enough blazers in their closet. As seen on my blog, I’m usually wearing a blazer of some variation but my favorite this season goes to the boxy fit. It’s the perfect transitional piece to pair with your jeans, layer over a dress, or throw over a mini skirt. There’s something special about that boy meets girl vibe. If you have too many blazers, try corduroy for a change.
Layering Basics
Fall is all about layering, so you gotta stock up on basics such as turtleneck tops, long sleeve crewnecks, and plain tees. I recently started gravitating more towards sheer long-sleeve tops and haven’t stopped wearing them. Since I’m usually decked out in either super tailored or casual outfits, a sheer tee puts a feminine touch back into my look.
Top Handle Bag
Cross body bags have long ruled the handbag scene, and it’s about a time a new contender steals the spotlight. Meet fall’s it-bag, the top handle mini. It’s the perfect mix of structure and playful. If you’re still into cross body styles, don’t worry, many of these bags come with a longer strap. I simply prefer the short handle top.
Mules
Mules are still not going anywhere, and this season brings us a plethora of prints, colors, and ornamental heels. If you ever feel under dressed, pointed toe mules will instantly elevate your look. It’s the perfect shoe style for early fall!
Relaxed Jeans
I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of skinny jeans and I have no regrets. These days, I’m reaching for relaxed styles daily. Whether my jeans are cropped or stacked with a longer inseam, I prefer a straight or wide fit in an authentic wash. They look far more fresh with boots!
