Winters are pretty mild here in LA but because of my travel schedule, I’m often caught between polarizing temperatures. I decided to put together this capsule winter wardrobe list to help you guys build a foundation for your closet. What’s great about it, is that many of the pieces can be worn year round. I believe in having a few capsule pieces because it trims down your morning routine significantly and ensures that you’re getting the most usage out of your closet. I skipped winter accessories in this post, but you can read more about that here.
1. Oversized Coat
I love oversized coats because of how easy they are to dress up or down. You can work it into your travel outfits, a night out, or a casual day look.
2. Blazer
I’m almost never without a blazer, so of course I had to include it here. It’s a great layering piece that you can wear under a coat in cooler temps.
3. Sweaters
LA nights and mornings can get chilly so having a few sweaters on hand is always a good idea.
4. Basic Tee
A basic tee is one of those pieces that looks great with everything. Since I wear them all throughout the year, I don’t mind spending a little more on a quality tee.
5. Wide Leg Pants
There’s nothing quite as comfy as wide leg pants in the wintertime. I love that they feel similar to loungewear and are so easy to get around in. Dressier styles also make a great evening look.
6. Jeans
Jeans are essential in the winter for pairing with boots and sweaters. Whether you’re into skinny jeans, straight leg silhouettes, or cropped styles, you’ll make good use of them.
7. Tote Bag
I’m a minimalist when it comes to what’s inside my handbag, but I do carry a little more in the winter. Hand creams and lip balms go a long way so I like a structured tote.
8. Trainers
A purchase you won’t regret is a high quality trainer. They’re perfect for running around the city or traveling in. I love a simple, minimalist style.
9. Black Booties
I rotate between trainers and boots during winter. My favorite boot style is a classic ankle boot because it looks great with everything. Treated and patent leather are great because they’re easy to clean. However, I am obsessed with the luxe look of suede.
10. Sunglasses
Eyewear is a key accessory I’m almost never without. They’re great for combatting wind, dust, and debris while also reducing eyestrain. Sunglasses are just as important in the winter as in the summer!
